About us
he Uganda Physics Society (UPS) is a unified body of physics practitioners dedicated to advancing physics education, research, and its practical applications in Uganda. Our mission is to champion technology and innovation by fostering a strong and connected community of professionals.
Challenge We Address
In Uganda, we have seen poor performance and a decline in creativity among physics learners, leading to inadequate outcomes and a decreasing interest in the subject. There is also a concerning trend of fewer students, particularly females, pursuing physics at higher levels of education. The UPS was formed to confront these challenges and drive a positive change in the field
Our Mission and Purpose
Our core mission is to bring together a united group of physics practitioners—including educators, physicists, professionals, and engineers—to strengthen and rebuild Uganda's academic foundation in physics. Our ultimate goal is to improve performance in physics, increase research output, and contribute to faster industrialization and economic development in the country
What We Do
The UPS works to unite all physics practitioners in Uganda, helping to demystify abstract physics concepts for learners. We advocate for the use of competence-based and skill-oriented teaching methods to provide quality physics education. By doing so, we aim to showcase the relevance and applicability of physics and inspire more individuals to engage with this essential field
