MAK CONAS Physics students Career Guidance on Professional and Life Long Prospects of Physics

The Uganda Physics Society (UPS) recently held a career guidance session titled “Professional and Life-Long Prospects of Physics” for students at Makerere University’s College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS). The event aimed to equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate their career paths in the diverse field of physics.

Mr. Nsubuga Joseph, the President of the Uganda Physics Society, opened the session by highlighting the immense potential of a physics degree. He emphasized that the analytical and problem-solving skills acquired through studying physics are highly valued in a wide range of industries, from technology and finance to engineering and research.

During the session, various professionals, including Dr. Okello Denis, Head of the Physics Department at Makerere University, shared their experiences and insights. They provided practical advice on how to leverage academic knowledge into successful careers. The speakers also discussed emerging fields where physicists are in high demand, such as data science, renewable energy, and medical physics.

The event featured a Q&A segment where students could interact directly with the speakers. Topics of discussion included internship opportunities, networking strategies, and the importance of continuous learning. The session also encouraged students to join the Uganda Physics Society to connect with a broader network of professionals and mentors.

The event concluded with a powerful message from the UPS President, Mr. Nsubuga Joseph, who stated:

“Our goal is not just to see you graduate, but to see you thrive. A physics degree is a passport to innovation and a career without borders. Embrace it, and let’s champion technology and innovation together.”

The society is committed to supporting students and professionals in the physics community through such initiatives.
